Lets say you touch a cold sore then your privates, would that develop into genital herpes? I though that cold sores were caused by a different strain of herpes than genital herpes. So is it true or not?
Answer:
Sort of... the kind you normally get on your mouth is Herpes type 1 (HSV1). The kind you normally get on your genitals is Herpes type 2 (HSV2). You can get type 1 on your genitals which would be "genital herpes," but it is still type 1, just in a different location. You can also get type 2 on your mouth, but it is still type 2, just in a different location.
If you develop herpes in a different location than it normally resides, the symptoms tend to be less severe. For instance, type 2 on your mouth is far less likely to reoccur than type 2 on your genitals.
So, yes, touching a "cold sore" (which is really herpes) then touching your genitals can give you herpes on your genitals. Though it wont be the usual genital strain, it can cause the same symptoms.read more

Are children borne from a mother with oral herpes borne with an immunity to the disease?
My daughter-in-law also has oral herpes. She says that my son can't get it because I has it and passed some kind of immunity to him when he was in my womb. Is this true? My son have been married 1 years and still no sign of herpes..... He have always lived with someone who has the problem so he don't have a natural fear of it.
Answer:
No, it doesn't give you an immunity. You can still catch it. However since 80% of the populaiton has it and you grew up with someone with it, chances are you already have it. Most people who have it have no symptoms and don't have a clue they are infected. No, it isn't a big deal, but just be aware catching her cold sores on your mouth isn't bad, but if she gives you oral sex you could catch her herpes on your genitals, even when she has no symptoms. :-)

I Have Herpes and I Am Not Ashamed to Admit That
I contracted herpes over seven years ago and, as many others, I struggled with the emotional issues, the sense of betrayal, and the depression that often accompanies being diagnosed with this incurable virus. Initially I was completely unaware of online support forums, but when I did discover them after two years of struggling on my own, they literally changed my life.
I gradually progressed from ‘lurking’ on the forums (reading messages only), to posting occasionally, to actively posting supportive messages and participating fully in the forums. With time I set up a local group and created a website. From the stories and feedback on the forums, it was obvious that there were many needs and wants currently not capable of being met by the existing online forums...read more

Genital Herpes: Stigma Still Strong
Genital herpes is common but it still carries a big social stigma, an online poll shows.
The poll included 503 U.S. adults with genital herpes and about 1,400 other adults who said they didn't have genital herpes.
Among genital herpes patients, 39% said they were troubled by societal stigma about genital herpes. Far more genital herpes patients -- 75% -- were troubled by bothersome symptoms of genital herpes outbreaks.
Most people without genital herpes said they would avoid having a relationship with someone who has genital herpes and break up with a partner who had genital herpes...read more

Does stress trigger herpes?
The major myths surrounding herpes are about how the viral infection is transmitted. Here, we try and clear some misunderstandings
*It is believed that physical and emotional stress can trigger an outbreak of Genital herpes in some people. Stress can compromise your immune system.
